Odisha panchayat elections: The date may be announced today. The State Chief Electoral Commission met with the Governor


The date for the panchayat elections may be announced today. Yesterday, the Election Commission's Aditya Padhy briefed the governor on the preparations for the election. He also discussed the law and order situation with the police DG and senior officials. So the date is likely to be announced today. According to sources, the decision was made to abide by the Covid law and to hold elections. According to the guidelines issued by the National Election Commission (NEC) for the five state assembly elections, the decision was taken to hold panchayat elections.


Yesterday, the Election Commission convened an all-party meeting and held talks with all political parties. The views of all parties were taken up at the meeting. Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections. The congressional hearing about that were exactly where the firing came from. The BJP also said that the issue of OBC reservation and voter registration was flawed. Meanwhile, a public interest litigation has been filed in the High Court to cancel the panchayat elections. The state Election Commission, the Chief Secretary to Government, the Secretary to the Panchayat Raj, the Secretary for Housing and Urban Development have been sided in the case.
