The process of filing nomination papers for the three-tier panchayat elections has been completed. The number of finalists nominated has been announced. A total of 3,999 candidates have filed nominations for the post of Zilla Parishad candidate, as well as 34,613 candidates for the post of Sarpanch and 28,153 candidates for the Samiti Member. A total of 162,297 candidates have filed nominations for the post of ward member, according to the Secretary to the State Election Commission. It is learned that the nomination papers will be verified from today.
Candidates can withdraw their candidatures if they wish by the 25th of this month. Voting will take place on February 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 after the final list of candidates is released.
