Khordha: 03rd AUG: The prestigious National Law University, Odisha, Cuttack (NLUO) along with implementing partner of DISHA programme in Odisha – Shadow Advertising & Communications Pvt Ltd, Bhubaneswar organized a mega legal awareness programme and mediation camp at NLUO’s own legal aid clinic at Jankia (50 kms away from Bhubaneswar), Dist.- Khurdha on 2nd August, 2022.
The programme was organized by Legal Aid Society of NLUO in collaboration with Department
of Justice Pro Bono Club and Centre for Mediation and Negotiation, NLUO. Around 23 students from
the University participated in the awareness camp where the students spread awareness about
menstrual hygiene and welfare of women through skits and presentations. In furtherance of the
objective, the students of the Legal Aid Society distributed free sanitary napkins to all the attendees,
irrespective of their gender. As part of the mediation camp, a group of students demonstrated the
importance of mediation as a mode of dispute resolution to the attendees and performed a skit.
The team of 23 students was led by Faculty Advisors Dr. Kuntirani Padhan, Ms. Nikita Pattajoshi and
Mr. Akshay Verma. This was followed by a presentation on the changes brought to the
Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 and how women can be benefited, by Mr. Dhiraj Behera, Programme Manager and Mr. Debapriya Das, from Shadow, Bhubaneswar. The Complete Programme is captured by Photographer Mr. Chandan Tripathy and on field implementation was done by Mr Bimal Parida & Mr. Nabaghana Mohapatra. Bhubaneswar based Online Food service Company ANNAM has arranged Food for Students.
The hour long programme was attended by members of the Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI), women members from self-help groups and girl students from the local school. The awareness programme was a success with immense interaction from the attendees regarding prospects of mediation for various kinds of disputes in the question and answer session.
